If you thought yesterday…
…had a lot of photos, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
After a morning dilly dallying around, we went out for a bike ride. As I promised Eleanor, we got going with the photo prompts over on Her Space My Space. Armed with a list of all the prompts, we also set ourselves the challenge of getting photos only of things seen on the bike ride.
And we did it!! ![]()
Admittedly some of them are a bit dodgy, but all todays pics were inspired by the prompts. Sit back and enjoy the decidely amateurish photography. Or not….
We had fun anyway. Four and a half hours of fun. On bikes. You can imagine the tenderness of our behinds. Or not….
We rode down one side of the river and came back along the other.
Olivia’s photos are on the left, mine are not. Mine are on the right. ![]()
The photos are not generally in the order we took them, except for a few at the end. Oh….I’ll just get on with it….
Here you go….
BRICK
Both taken when we’d got down to the Quay, Olivia’s is the Custom House, mine is the Quay House Visitor Centre, a bit of old Heavitree stone….

PLAY
Olivia’s was taken by one of the pubs on the Quayside, mine as we wended our way home.

REFLECTION
Olivia’s was taken more or less at the very beginning of our little riverside jaunt, mine on the final stretch. We’d stopped at a pub (how scandalous!), it’s Olivia reflected in the slide there. It’s not her bottom! You can see the very faint image of her head at the bottom. Of the photo.

ROUND
Olivia’s was still at the Quay where her Play photo was taken. Although this one could also come under ‘Play’, as it’s usually swarming with kids scrambling all over it. Mine was at the furthest extent of our ride, as we crossed over to the other side of the river.

READ
Olivia wanted any sign that you could read while cycling along. And hopefully not fall off your bike at the same time. Mine was at one of the Quay side antique shops. Books. ‘Cos you can read them too.

TAP
Both of these were taken near our journey’s end. They’re taps. For water. On the pub wall.

CRAFT
“Craft on a bike ride?” I hear you ask. Aha!! This is where we got devious. Olivia’s is a craft shop on the Quay. Mine is a river craft. Hey! ‘Craft’ wasn’t specified at all!!

STORAGE
Storage was a bit iffy as well. Olivia’s was behind the back of a shop, mine was bike storage. It counts!!

DUSTY
We actually found some dust! A gust of wind blew it in our faces and nearly blinded us, but by this time we were both really into our quest. “Dust!” we yelled, getting a few odd looks, “That’s mine!” yelled Olivia. I had to make do with a pathetic dusty tyre….

GREEN
Olivia’s was a clump of clover, mine was a picnic bench when we stopped for refreshments. Hers was lemonade. Mine was a shandy. Honest! I could have had something stronger, but I didn’t!!

SHINY
Both bike ones for this. Olivia’s bell, my parcel rack….shelf….whatever it’s called….

ODD
Well, this could have been any one of the odd looks we were getting today. Fairly numerous they were. But….Olivia’s was….um….something. We saw it, Olivia asked what it was, I said I didn’t know. She said “That’s odd and it’s mine!!” Damn, she’s quick! And mine? Well, there was only ever really going to be one contender for the title of ‘Odd’, wasn’t there?

FUNKY
One funky helmet, and some funky graffiti on the skate park….

ROW
Olivia’s is a row of seagulls, I went off on a tangent, thinking outside the box and all that.
“Oh!! Can I have that for mine?”
“No. It’s mine. Ha!!”

COLD
Olivia’s is a bunch of kayaking people, “Cor! I bet they’re cold!” Mine is the ice in Olivia’s lemonade. She wouldn’t hold a cube for me, “It’s too cold!” Well, duh!

TWO
Two ducks for Olivia, two bridges for me.

HAPPY
We took these at almost the very end of the day. We stopped at Double Locks, an ever so lovely pub, and I asked Olivia what she was most happy about….

So not spending quality time with me then? OK….I won’t sulk….
After four hours out and about, and not thinking we’d be that long so didn’t bother having lunch first, or even thinking to take anything with us….what made me happy at that precise moment….?

Yes….I know there’s only two of us….and yes….I know there’s three bowls of chips….but look, see, when I went to order, they didn’t accept cards for under a fiver….the chips cost £2 a bowl….that only comes to £4….so….I had to order three bowls….see??
Sooo….that’s what we’ve been doing today….Olivia’s already had her bath, it’s my turn now….I am far too weary to find funnies….I will make it up tomorrow….promise….

Brilliant post, loved the photos, we’re going to have at go at it too. And after all that cycling you dserve extra chips!!

We saw you today but we were on a quest too. Ours wasn’t as exciting though, it was only going to the vets to collect Susie and hand over the £300!! for her emergency treatment.I think that she heard me say that all the bills were paid for once and we had a little spare cash to buy stuff for the garden
She’s definitely feeling better now though (if a little sorry for herself).

What a blast. I thoroughly enjoyed your bike ride from a distance. From the warmth and comfort of home. (Richard can’t do the bike thing, don’t know that we could scooter that far). Wonderful interpretations. I must ask my mum where we lived in Heavitree, and you can tell me if it’s still there.

Thank you Amanda, Lucy and Sarah! We’ve decided that with the photo prompt thing, we like doing it in the scavenger hunt way we did yesterday, so we’ll be doing it again. Probably not 17 in one go though, maybe 5 or 6 at a time. So we don’t get sore bums again.
What happened to Susie?! I’ll give you a ring Lisa!
Hello Eleanor! When I first came to Exeter, I lived with my mum just off the Butt’s Road end of Wonford Street in Heavitree. I know that’s almost an address, but we don’t live there anymore. We live somewhere else now.

Just been back on HerSpace:MySpace, and ‘Craft’ was specified…. “Handmade oddments around your home….” Doh!! Well, somebody might make a pedestrian river ferry in their home. Some people are weird like that….
